Of Gaming rigs and websites.
June 14, 2008 6:09 pm UncategorizedMy father-in-law was kind enough to give me his “old” Pentium Core 2 Duo E6750 when he upgraded to a Intel Quad core. In exchange I will give him my old Pentium D 940 (3.2Ghz) so that he can setup a spare server.
I have a Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 Rev 1.0 motherboard which explicitly supports the E6750. I thought (mistankingly) that I could just plop in the new CPU and off I go. Which should have been the case. However, as is generally the case nothing ever goes as planned or even smoothly. When I put the new CPU in the machine fired up, but did not post. Ungh!
I decided to put the old CPU back in, it posted, but started to shutdown about after 20 - 30 seconds. I thought it was the ancient and crappy thermal grease I had laying around (it was not Artic Silver). So I borrowed some AS from a friend of mine and tried again…still no joy.
After talking with my buddy Leo, we thought that the issue with the Core 2 was that the BIOS needed to be flashed to handle the higher FSB @ 1333Mhz. Which makes sense since this mobo supports 1066Mhz out of the box and there were a few BIOS updates with regards to “CPU ID”.
Sooo…now, I need to get the old CPU up and running, flash the BIOS…get it stable, and then try the new CPU. Its not difficult or anything, just a royal pain in the ass is all. I’ll work on that today.
I was also hoping to get Theresa’s website mostly complete this weekend as well. Well, functionality wise anyway. I was a good bit further than I thought I was, which of course is a good thing.
There is still some work to be done on the site. I need to rework the overall layout and styling, add the login functionality, add item deletion, and properly display the food menu. It shouldn’t take that long for the functionality part. As is always the case layout and styling are the lion’s share of the work here.
Well, I think I will go work on that computer…in the cool of the house. Its just too damn muggy outside today. yuck!
